This Winter Sangria recipe is the perfect winter drink. It is so delicious…red wine with Grand Marnier, brandy, pomegranate juice and fresh fruit all mixed together into one veryfestive and flavourful drink! I’m also sharing a non-alcohol version as well.

This year for the holidays my husband and I wanted to mix up a festive drink we could enjoy at Christmas and all of the gatherings we plan to attend leading up to the big day. So we decided to make a Winter Sangria…full of fresh fruit! There’s just something about red wine, juice and cut up winter fruit that just feels like the perfect drink to enjoy over the holidays and into the bleak winter season.

Perfect for your Holiday Party!

So this past weekend we mixed up 2 batches of this sangria recipe to take over to our friends annual Ugly Christmas Sweater party, and hoped that others would enjoy it as much as we did. And by the end of the night, there was not a drop left, in fact, we were reduced to eating the fruit. But let me tell you a little secret here…the fruit is the best part, it’s basically a wine soaked fruit salad and it’s amazing…the apples are my absolute favourite. Divine.

I also like to addcranberries as a festive garnish, but don’t eat them…I mean you can, but theytastebitter. They look great in holiday drinks though!

Double the Recipe!

If you’re planning on having a crowd, you’ll want to double this recipe! Also, don’t be afraid to play around with it…add more pomegranate juice or fruit that you like. Serve it in a self serve punch bowl or jugs, and use red wine glasses if your party is more formal, or use mason jars for an informal gathering! Just have fun with it!

Recipe Tips:

  • Wine: You can use a sweet red wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir or merlot. The best though is garnacha (a Spanish red wine)
  • Citrus: This recipe calls for oranges, but feel free to add lemons, limes or even slices of grapefruit.
  • Berries:We usually use blackberries, but all berries are delicious: raspberries, strawberries.
  • More Fruit Options:Feel free to add fruit that you like. Some examples are kiwi, different apples, different citrus, berries, mango, pineapple, peaches or pears.
  • Non-Alcohol Variation: You can use sprite, club soda or ginger ale.
